Welcome to the Dragon Community: Peter Dux
Peter Dux is the new Area Director for the Snarr Resident Hall Complex. In this role he will be supporting the Resident Assistants and Learning Community Mentors in any way that he can!
Q: Tell me about yourself.
A: I grew up closer to Grand Forks, north of Fargo in a town called Buxton, North Dakota. I mostly worked at summer camps once I had my degree, for about 15 years at camps in upstate New York, Washington State, and Florida, and a lot in Minnesota as well. I then came back to Minnesota and served as a literacy tutor for Minnesota Reading Corps.
Q: Where did you attend college and what did you study?
A: I went to NDSU for my undergraduate degree in Recreation Management and minor in Business Administration.
Q: What drew you to MSUM?
A: Being a literacy tutor led me to want to be a teacher, so I decided to come to MSUM to get my elementary education degree but then switched to higher education with the master's degree in student affairs and education. That is part of how I got my job as an area director. I just knew that if I was going to school for teaching, MSUM was the place to go; I didn’t hesitate on that. I’ve always heard great things about MSUM.
Q: What do you like about the FM area?
A: There are times I miss living in certain parts of the country, but North Dakota and Minnesota have always been home. All of my family is here.
Q: How are you looking forward to working with the resident assistants?
A: The way I look at it, I like to support the people who are supporting people, being a mentor to as many people as I can. It’s such an honor to be a part of this Dragon family as a professional; it is very full circle to now be on the other side helping students.
Q: Are there any events or goals you have in mind?
A: I want to see what’s been successful in the past and build on that. I also want to help students get involved with all the campus activities possible. We are also planning to do Relay for Life this September.
Q: If you had a pet dragon what would be its name?
A: I’d pick something that goes along with my pet cat. My cat’s name is Harley Quinn, so I would pick another villain’s name. Its name would be Poison Ivy to stay thematic. It would have to be a green dragon.
